    Practice Schedule/Tournament Rules

The 9 year old manager's meeting went well Sunday. I had all the necessary documentation for all 13 players listed on the affidavit and District 14 staff signed off on ours as needed in order to play. Thanks to all the parents who provided the needed documentation. We do still however need a medical release form completed for every parent/player. I will need to carry these completed forms with the affidavit to every game. Please see me at practice this week for a copy of the form and fill it out as necessary. Also now that the affidavit is signed, please make sure you ask for your documents back. I don't need to carry the proofs of residency or birth certificates with me.

Slight change to the practice schedule for this week as we will not be having practice on Friday. Even though this will leave us with only 3 more practices before we play, the tournament game schedule is going to be very tough (6 games in 7 days) and I don't want everybody both kids and parents to be worn out before we begin. We will be playing the tournament by regular Little League Tournament Rules. These rules have historically resulted in many 3+ hour games for the 9 year olds. Some important changes from regular season to note are:

    1) All games have No time limit. We will play 6 innings however the 10 run rule is in effect. The curfew for starting an inning in the tournament moves to 11pm instead of 10pm like regular season. 2) No 5 run limit in runs per inning...both teams are allowed to score as many runs as you can each inning, but again the 10 run rule does apply. 3) We will flip a coin for home and visitor before each game...we may be the visiting team at home and the home team when we travel. 4) Only 9 players in the line up at any given time. No continuous batting order like we had in regular season. 5) Mandatory play is 1 at bat and 3 consecutive outs on defense. 6) We can use a special pinch runner...each game we can use a pinch runner for somebody once per inning. A player can only be run for once per game. The pinch runner can only be someone who is not currently in the line up. The same pinch runner can be used more than once in the game...just not for the same player more than once. 7) Slight changes in the pitch count/rest requirements over regular season

    Practice:

    Today 6/27 - 6pm, Wed. 6/28 - 6pm, Thurs. 6/29 - 6pm

    Thanks,

    Coach Kyle

    Re: More Tournament Rules

More rule changes from regular season that you should be aware of and will most likely see in the tournament:

    1) Showing bunt, pulling the bat back then swinging away is legal

    2) Wiggling the bat to distract the batter is legal

    3) In order to have 3 adults in the dug-out all 13 players on the roster must be present for the game. If any player is sick, hurt or can't make it to the game for whatever reason then we are only allowed 2 adults. As in regular season, one adult must remain in the dug-out at all times. So if we only have 12 or less players at any game for whatever reason, we will have to use a player for a 1st base coach while batting.

Kenneth Dew, Brett Turner and Nolan Bilnoski (score book) will be coaches as they are available. There is a whole lot to keep up with during a game with mandatory play, line up changes, pitch count, eligible pitchers and such. Thank you very much to all 3 of you for your help.

The continuous batting order we used in league play was adopted by Little League for Minor league regular season play for the first time this year. As a result, this tournament will be the first experience with a 9 player at a time line up on both offense and defense for everyone other than Matt, Ryan, Isaac and Garrett who all played Minor I last year with the 9 at a time rule. Please understand that only 9 at a time can be in the line up both on offense and defense. I will do my best to balance the lineup to be fair, do what's best for the team and maximize playing time for everyone.

    Re: Game at La Marque

We will be meeting at the park at 4:30 and leaving shortly after that for anyone who wants to follow to La Marque. It's about 35 miles and should take about an hour depending on traffic.
