Unfortunately I have some bad news. At about 11:30 this morning I received a call from the major division tournament director for District 14. He called to notify me that a mistake had been made while determining which teams advance. Sadly the team that was advanced by mistake was our team. Now Central will advance to the quarter finals as the number 2 seed.
I will do my best to explain the correct procedure for 3 teams tied with the same win/loss record and will also attach the tie breaker document from District 14.
Since Island, Central, and North all has 2-1 records and we each beat each other, we determine the number 1 seed by who allowed the least amount of runs per inning in pool play. That would be Island with .94 runs per inning. We allowed an average of 1 run per inning. Central allowed 1.2 runs per inning. So Island advances as the number 1 seed.
Now with us and Central with 2-1 records we go with head to head play to determine the number 2 seed. Since Central beat us in they advance as the number 2 seed.
The mistake was made last night by using runs allowed to determine everything, which is incorrect according to the official documentation.
I talked with Frank this morning and informed him of the situation. He was disappointed that the team would not advance but said he is very proud of this team. I agree, I was only able to attend one game but was very impressed by their level of play and unity. It is tough to beat the number 1 seed by 6 runs and not advance to the next round, but I guess that is how it works sometimes. Good job to Coach Frank, Coach Albert, and the entire team, you guys really are All-Stars.
